I’ve been writing stories since I was seven years old, and I fell in love with reading years before that. My adoration for the English language and my connection to it has existed for longer than I can remember! While I often struggle with remembering the mechanics behind the language (aka, grammar haha), I still love adding new words to my vocabulary, reading up on definitions, and finding correct ways to use cool words when I talk and write blog posts.
Because of this, I always put a lot of thought into the words I use for blog post titles, posts series I write, and especially the names of my blogs themselves. Even though it’s an insanely difficult language to grasp, English is one of the main ways I express myself, and blogging provides me with many opportunities to use the language in fun, new ways.
I’m not sure where I first heard the word “expressive,” but when I read its definition for the first time – “showing or communicating meaning or feeling effectively” (source) – I knew I had to use it a blog’s name someday.
Back in February of this year, I started a very short-lived blog on another platform called The Expressive Life. I was very excited about and happy with this blog name because it described me so well! I’m a very expressive person, and I love utilizing outlets through which I can show others how I see, think, and feel about things. This website did a great job of describing the word, and its definition may help you to understand me a bit more.
I didn’t keep up with that blog under the same name as this one, but I never forgot about that name. I stuck with Dreaming of Guatemala for a bit more time, posting on it periodically from March through October of this year, but I could really feel myself disconnecting from the original reasons why I’d created that blog in the first place. I’m not the same person I was when I started Dreaming of Guatemala in January of 2017 – it’s been nearly three years since I decided to create that missions-focused lifestyle blog, and I’ve needed an updated online space to share my thoughts on for a while. #CoolestRunOnSentenceOfTheYear However, before doing that, I had some emotions and feelings I needed to come to terms with over the summer and into the fall, so I’m glad I’m here now with a new blog. Even though it would have been nice to have started this months ago, there was the right time for this chapter to begin, and that time is now. ❤
I chose to name my blog The Expressive Life because of how much I enjoy showing others my love for life. Whether I write a fun blog post, bake an exciting new dessert for my family, tell a joke that has everyone in the room laughing, or hold a photoshoot to capture beautiful memories, I’m a very expressive girl who loves helping others to enjoy their lives more in the simplest of ways. ❤ I’ll be sharing a lot of those fun times on my blog in the near future!
Here are some ideas I have for upcoming posts:
- days in the life
- room tours
- recipes I’ve tried
- recent favorites
- cool things I’ve learned in psychology
- books I’d love to read / movies I’d love to watch
- song favorites
- positive new habits I’m creating
- art projects and hobbies I’m working on
- helpful tips / things I’m learning
- … and a lot more that I can’t think of right now lol
Let me know which ones you’re the most excited about reading! (If you pick the last one on the list, you’re a trooper, ’cause that’s super vague haha)
Thank you so much for coming along!
